The Gentleman’s Game

Golf is a gentleman’s game and today it is one of the richest sports in the world. The name and fame of prominent golf players have reached world wide recognition. So naturally a large number of Golf shop have sprung up in different places to cater to the needs of the players. The game of golf is generally played on the Golfkurse and it is in fact a large area of green land that has a succession of holes in a particular sequence. Usually a typical golf course has 18 holes in them but some of them have only 9 holes in which case the game is played twice so count the score on 18. The grass is grown at different levels which represent the different difficulty levels. The various world bodies and associations have put forth a number of rules and regulations with the golfers must abide by to be qualified for a title. The two main bodies include the USGA, which is the ‘United States Golf Association’ and the other is “The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews” which was founded way back in the 1750s. The players generally use the golf clubs to hit the golf ball into the holes. The golf clubs can be of different sizes and each sized club is used to play different strokes. To play golf in Germany you need be licensed or what is popularly known as Golfkurs Platzreife, which is actually a proof of your ability to play the game fair and square. It also is a proof of the fact that you know the game well and is a kind of record to prove it. Today golf is played the world over, and many sports personalities from other sports too have taken up golf because of the need for less physical exertion and the calm and peace that it give you.
